Parenting Toolbox – Development Milestones

6 Month Old

The early development of a child is regulated largely by the need of safety, which is why a baby wants to be near the caretaking adult. When the caretaker answers to baby’s need of proximity; the baby learns to rely on the caretaker. This supports the sense of security of the baby, enabling explorations of the environment.

The understanding of the words is still developing. Therefore, non-verbal interaction helps the baby to communicate with an adult; use simple gestures to signal what you mean. Make eye contact, use different facial expressions, sing to your baby, answer the baby’s babbling by talking to the baby, let your baby explore the world from your lap.
